Guest Post: Emily’s 21-day Juice Feast
What I most took away from my 21-day Juice Feast was the principle of balance. Having wrestled with a tendency to vacillate between extremes in lifestyle, diet, emotion, and thought, I longed for a sense of peace and wellness. While to many people the idea of living on juice for 3 weeks could seem extreme, I found that what it unearthed in me was a deeper sense of what it meant to find equilibrium and calm.
My Fall 2012 Juice Feast – Days 6-9
I am finished with my Fall Juice Feast! The last couple days were stellar and delicious in so many ways. I feel more harmonious in my body, and I love to emerge out of the Juice Feast on the other end with that feeling. It is always my intention to carry over all I learned about myself and my body and all that I experienced into my “normal” eating mode.
My Fall 2012 Juice Feast – Update on Day 5!
Yes, I have been Juice Feasting for the past 5 days! I like to do some Juice Feasting every 3-6 months as a tune-up. Much like tuning up your car or your instrument, the body needs some tuning and maintenance. Though we may eat very well, we still take in toxins through the air, water, things we put on our skin, things we touch. Beyond that, even, our organs need some rest and deep-cleansing here and there. How long will I go? I haven’t decided yet — I like to leave it up to intuition, but for at least 7 days.
What is the Best Juicer?
What attributes does a fantastic juicer have?
Makes your liquid rocket fuel (juice) with no pulp in the juice. No floaties welcome here.
Leaves the pulp adequately pulverized and dry. It squeezes (literally) the most out of the money that you paid for the produce
You use it and clean it and use it again. 100% of the juicer you don’t use doesn’t make juice.
Why I’ve Stayed Vegan: My 7-Year Veganniversary
Following my blog last week on how I went vegan, I’m continuing to celebrate my 7 years vegan with a new post: why I’ve stayed vegan.
Has staying vegan for 7 years been hard?
The choice to go vegan was a deep one from the start and that has never budged. So in the broadest sense, no, it hasn’t been hard to stay vegan for 7 years. The curious thing is that the beginning of my vegan journey had to do with my own health and well-being. At that point in my life, choosing to act in a loving way to my body by eating better was a radical move. Just choosing in my own best interest was revolutionary in my personal growth.
How to Get Gorgeous Skin
You don’t need a bunch of products to make your skin glow. Advertising would like you to think all you need is the perfect combo of their 5, 10, or 500 products to have flawless skin. So flawless in fact, that yours will match the airbrushed quality of their models’ skin!
Should You Keep the Fiber When You Cleanse?
So, you want to do a cleanse, but you’ve been wondering: what about all the fiber in those veggies and fruits? Should you use juices or smoothies? Both? Why do some “cleanses” involve juice only and some have smoothies with fiber?
Coffee and Sugar out, Waterfall and Trampolines In!
Nearly all of us reach points in our day where we feel less focused, less energetic, and less inspired. For most of the world, those points in the day are addressed with coffee, sugar, and other stimulants and compensating habits.
Jedis of Consciousness Awakening
Feelings of peace, love, and joy in life. An easier time letting go of destructive thought and behavioral patterns. Direct experiences of communion with the Divine and of the Oneness of all things. Clearer thinking. Longer life. Better skin.
Bodies: The Exhibition
Last night I went with my brother, Chris Whitcoe and Andrea McNinch to Bodies: The Exhibition in Tucson. You might recall my writing about my developed interest in anatomy in my Guardian of Organs post.
For Chris, Andrea and I, going to see the exhibition was both a learning experience and was valuable in grounding deeper our passion for helping people heal their bodies, feel and look fantastic, and extend their lifespans.
Incredible Transformations
I want to share an amazing experience I just had about 15 minutes ago. We had a closing circle for our 21 day programs at the Tree of Life: Reversing Diabetes Naturally and Transformation programs. Normally I don’t talk too much about the Tree of Life’s stuff on my own personal blog and I keep it to the official Tree of Life blog, but I was so touched by what the participants shared that I wanted to write to you about it.
A Supportive Spring
Spring, which always seems short in Patagonia, is in full swing! Pink cherry blossoms are eye-catching against the backdrop of leafless trees, grass is shooting up, and the rolling hills and mountains, which always remind me of sand ripples in the ocean, are taking on a green tint.
Juice Feast – Days 5 and 6
Spirulina. I sometimes put it in my juices, and so often have cravings for it so I just eat little spoonfuls of it straight! It’s alright, for now at least, since I’m choosing to be active and likely need it to really give it my all in P90x. I’ll have to feel how things progress, though, because spirulina does slow down the detoxification process. I just desire it so much! All the time! What is this all about??
Juice Feast – Days 3&4
Day 3 and 4 have gone very smoothly! Juice Feasting is so easy, I love it. So far the most difficult part for me is going without spirulina salads. I know, I’m just full of surprises, aren’t I!? I have been waking up about an hour earlier than I normally do, which always happens when I fast/feast. The body has less repair and near to no digestion to do overnight, so it doesn’t require as long to rest. It’s been a little chilly here, which also makes Juice Feasting a bit challenging, but lots and lots of layers as well as cayenne pepper is enough to remedy that situation.
Juice Feast – Days 1&2
The first 2 days have gone smoothly as far as juicing, I have not felt too much hunger or cravings. I am recovering due to being a bit sick after returning from NYC, my guess is due to staying up later than I normally do (~2am versus ~10pm) the difference in air quality (Patagonia has the 5th cleanest air of any town in the US, according to Forbes), and eating more sugar than I normally do (all raw food, but still – more sugar). So, I have been really not that hungry and haven’t gotten the full gallon in that is normal for Juice Feasting, and have been going to bed really early. Also due to recovery, I haven’t begun again with P90X or any other kind of activity. On Day 3? I hope!
A Spring Juice Feast
I have been feeling called to do a spring cleanse.

A Liver Flush
I am on the 4th day of a liver flush I am doing with my two office gals. This is my 2nd liver flush ever, the first I did in the summer of 2008. I got many small liver stones out, as well as one large stone about an inch long.
A 5 day Juice Feast & Body-Spirit Connection
Last week I did 5 days Juice Feasting. Many of you know that I have a long history of Juice Feasting, and many are familiar. If you are not, please click here and enjoy massive amounts of information!
One Day of Juice Feasting
I Juice Feasted Friday, which felt fantastic after so much food on Thanksgiving. Yesterday I planned my day poorly and was caught at about 1pm having not had anything and spacing out while needing to be productive, so I did about 1/2 eating and 1/2 juicing yesterday. Today, I am going out and about with a friend, a previous engagement I had forgotten about, so will be eating as well. Juice to commence tomorrow. These days my juicing doesn’t seem to always go according to intention… and, I’m fine with that :)
