Why I’m Still Vegan

I’ve been vegan for nearly 17 years, and I wanted to share what I believe about the body's ability to thrive on veganism.

I believe that the human body is meant to eat vegan, and is meant to easily thrive being vegan. I have also come to believe that the fears and beliefs we have about our bodies and about nutrition, directly impact our body's response to a vegan diet.

Since I learned about a vegan diet, I felt in my heart that indeed, this is what the human body is meant to thrive on. This is how we are supposed to eat.

As a result, I have never worried about whether I would do well on a vegan diet. Why worry about doing something your body is literally designed to do? Why worry about the diet that won't cause damage and not worry about diets that do?

Not only that, but I grew up with a family-based belief which I believe has served me very well. I grew up believing and being taught that the human body is very resilient. It's hardy, strong, forgiving. In my family there was no fear or belief that the body was fragile, and there was no worry about "messing up" or doing something wrong nutritionally.

I believe this is a part of why my body has thrived on being vegan for 16 years: because I believe that the body is resilient, forgiving, and hardy, and that given the right conditions it can have incredible healing. I have never worried that my vegan diet has to be some really precise science because the body is so fragile and I could easily damage it with a vegan diet.

I believe that our bodies reflect our fears and our false beliefs.

I encourage everyone to be optimistic about a vegan diet! In 16 years I have always felt great on this diet, always energetic, and have never had any deficiencies.

Before I was vegan, I had severe autoimmune issues and chronic fatigue that would render me bed-ridden. I had hormonal issues and felt foggy all the time. Emotional work helped me clear this, but also, it all vanished when I went vegan.

Being vegan is an absolutely wonderful way to live and I'm so grateful to God to have found this information and for the abundance of yummy plants there are on the planet!
