What Practices Help to Heal Overeating?

All of the tools we use in healing overeating, such as journaling, reading books, listening to podcasts, watching videos, and so on, are just that: tools.

They are vehicles to help us get to where we need to go, which is fully feeling all of our emotions.

What exactly is it that heals overeating?

Often people ask me,

"Is it the journaling that heals overeating? Does meditation heal it? Do I just read these books and watch these videos and that will help to change it?"

The way it really works is, all of these resources and practices -- and many more -- are tools. They are vehicles to get us from where we are to where we want to go.

Where we are is not entirely understanding why we binge, or where it comes from, or what we are trying to avoid with food. We are in a place of some level of emotional disconnect and desire to suppress tough feelings.

Where we want to go is to feeling all of our emotions. Feeling emotions fully without controlling them, no matter how uncomfortable or painful they are.

We are going to feeling feelings about the real truth about our life and our childhood. Feeling those feelings in our bodies, and expressing them like a small child would.

So, the truth is none of these practices and resources heal overeating in and of themselves without going through a feeling process. Journaling doesn't, podcasts don't, books don't.

What these tools can do, however, is give us more truth, and more awareness. This is absolutely vital!

Without truth or awareness we can't even access a lot of our buried emotions. I would be nowhere without the help of the resources that have helped me and the practices such as journaling that I've done.

It is very difficult to feel about issues in your life that you don't believe are issues, or to access emotions that you don't feel are valid. Truth and awareness are absolutely vital.

But I also know that the thing that has drastically changed my impulses and inclinations with food addiction, is eventually connecting to those emotions and allowing them to flow.

So please use all the tools you can possibly find which help you go from unawareness and disconnection to realization and more truth. And then, keep going and let your soul feel and express what is there.

The resources and practices that have helped me more than anything include the Divine Truth teachings, journaling, and various books and podcasts. I will continue to periodically share my recommendations on this page!
