Healing Compulsive Eating Can Be Magical
We underestimate the work needed to heal food addiction, but we also underestimate the magical, permanent changes that can happen when we go there.
On one hand, we tend to underestimate how much deep, emotional work is required to heal food addiction.
On the other hand, we also underestimate the amazing changes that are possible in healing food addiction.
We hope that we can heal food addiction without having to feel uncomfortable and painful emotions, without having to go to the darker places in our souls and in our past.
We think, surely I don't need to analyze childhood stuff and spend all this time feeling emotions.
Surely, there is another way. Surely I can willpower my way there, meditate my way there, change my mindset and do lots of affirmations and that will fix it.
If we are somewhat open to feeling emotions, we want revolutionary change with just a few pillow bashes, and a couple big cries.
The truth is, to heal binge eating we need a great deal of personal effort, and we need to be willing to feel a LOT of grief and pain, a LOT of fear and terror, and a LOT of rage and anger.
We need to look at our childhood and the truth of how we were treated. There is no skipping over this.
However, if you do this work, you can become a person who does not have food addiction anymore.
You can become a person who can eat a bite of chocolate and not even feel like eating the whole bar.
You can become a person who can can be in a home with any food that your family brings in, and never overdo it because it's there.
You can become a person who finds it easy to eat in a healthy way and as a result, has no diet-related health issues at all. Your weight can arrive at a healthy place for you and stay there without strain.
You can be the person you always wanted to be with food, and it can be easy. It's not a battle, it's not tiring, it doesn't take focus. Food and weight is not at the forefront of your mind anymore.
To me, it is entirely worth the effort it takes to heal overeating, in order to have true freedom with food.
Not only that, but the work you do that heals food addiction reaches far in its benefits to your life, in your relationship with yourself, your mental health, your relationship with others, your passions and careers, and your relationship with God.
