Satisfying My Inner Dork
Raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, Star Trek and Board Games, Spock, Kirk and…
This Sunday, I ventured over to the house of Ivri and Chris, two of the three owners of VivaPura. Much to the benefit and joy of my inner dork, social fulfillment and sanity, Chris and Ivri are avid gamers. I’m not talking video
games here (although I must confess, I am also a playstation lover; and would surely fall to my demise were you to gift me one, along with some Final Fantasy, Need for Speed or Tekken games), but rather good ‘ole family games – board games, card games, word games, etc etc etc etc etc…
On Sunday, us three and 2 other lovely ‘Tree people’ spent 5 hours playing ‘Wise and Otherwise’, ‘Scattergories’ and ‘The Settlers of Catan’, and chomping manuka raisins and jungle peanuts. (I promise you my life is fun – wink)
On Monday my inner dork received yet another jolt of joy, due to my viewing of the new ‘Star Trek’ movie. Having seen every episode of the original version when I was a child, definitely warranting me the title of ‘Trekkie’ (a title I am proud to wear, by the way), I was curious to see if my heart could welcome this modern version. I did actually enjoy it, despite my bias. I have to say I’m pretty attached to Leonard Nimoy’s Spock, but I really appreciated how well they casted the new characters to honor the original series. Such a classic, Star Trek. Since seeing the movie, a few friends and I have been jokingly throwing around Spock’s phrase, “Are you attempting to elicit an emotional response from me?
It has made me want to watch all the original episodes again. To honor it. Or something.
The only things I can think of that would have topped of the dork meter are Monty Python, and learning a slew of awesome new words. I look forward to a day so epic.
