A question from a reader:
Hi Courtney,
I’ve been following your juice feast and I had three questions.
1.) How active are you? Do you exercise or climb or ride a bike?
2.) How much sleep do you get?
3.) What kind of juicer are you using? I find it to be a daunting task trying to pick out a juicer.
good days,Joshua
Thank you for the questions, Joshua!
1.) I am moderately active as of now, and this is an aspect I am working on increasing. I do about 20 – 40 minutes of exercise about 4 days per week, as of now. It’s usually jogging, but I like to change things up, so I’ll also rebound, dance, and some yoga.
2.) I sleep between 7 and 7.5 hours per night – very restful sleep and I am never tired during the day. I would estimate I sleep average about 15 – 30 minutes less since starting my juice feast.
3.) I do not use a juicer for my juice – I use a vitamix blender, in which I blend my produce and strain it all through a nut mylk bag. And here’s a tip regarding that: Paint straining cloth is an alternative to a nut mylk bag and is cheaper. Nut mylk bags cost about $10 – $15 new, and you can get several sheets of paint straining cloth for a few dollars.
The occasional spirulina salad daydream is still dancing around in my head at times, but it seems that another lovely daydream is starting to make some appearances: sea vegetables. I can’t complain that it seems my body finds the idea of such mineral rich foods attractive, and what it makes me think is that these items will be a priority in my diet when I go back to solid food. I’ve always known that sort high mineral living foods diet would be superior to one based around almond butter, dates and cacao, as many raw foodists do, but never has my body signaled so strongly that it is the right thing to do. What a phenomena to honestly feel that I’d rather have a bowl of seasoned sea vegetables than some sort of date-nut dessert concoction. It is wonderful because I rarely think about food, but when I do, how cool is it that I think about wakame and not junk food or cooked food
The other reason this sort of bodily intuition is so precious to me is that historically, I’ve had very little to no sense of it at all. Just the nature of eating disorders, in my experience, is such that not only is bodily intuition regarding food intake pretty much totally nullified, it is often distorted in a destructive way. Truly, it has only been since being on a high (nearly 100%) living foods diet that I’ve begun to learn what it is like to eat intuitively and listen to my body. I never ate according to what my body needed or craved. At the same time, my body was so numbed to its own intuition that I wouldn’t be able to follow it even if I wanted to. Thus, I’m really pleased and grateful to now feel from such a core level these specific cravings for certain nutrients and minerals found in the foods I’ve mentioned above (spirulina salad, sea veggies).
So anyways… got my tire fixed today (YAY), so I’m free to ransack unsuspecting towns of all the organic produce they have…
Juicily,
Courtney
