Binge Eating and Feeling Free

Is your binge eating an attempt to experience freedom and exert choice?

Is your overeating your way to feel like you are exerting choice in your life?

Are you trying to prove that you are free to do what you want, how you want, when you want?

People who grew up in family dynamics where there was a lot of control, criticism, domination or oppression often develop overeating as a way to rebel and experience what they are so desperate for: freedom, autonomy, choice.

When we attempt to heal compulsive eating, these are often emotions that come up for people: sensations of being controlled, having freedom taken away, being placed again under an oppressive order where they cannot do what they want when they want.

The better thing than overeating is for us to recognize that this sense of being shut down and controlled comes from somewhere in our childhood.

We may also find that our current life and people around us want to limit our freedom and choices as well.

Then, we must emotionally experience our suppressed rage and our grief and pain about these experiences.

When we engage this process emotionally, we will be healing root causes.

On the other side of those emotions, we will not need compulsive eating to exert our autonomy, personhood, choice and to experience freedom.

We will now feel far more free in our soul.
