My Low-Glycemic Diet Experiment

A low-glycemic diet is not just beneficial for those with sugar-related health imbalances. Gabriel Cousens, M.D.’s research has shown that one of the main factors that long-lived people have in common are low leptin and insulin levels. For the studies, physiological explanation and in-depth how-to, I recommend reading Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine and There is a Cure for Diabetes by Gabriel Cousens, M.D. There are also very in-depth videos of Gabriel speaking about this topic at GabrielCousens.com.

Here though, it’s all about experience. I’ve been transitioning into a Phase 1.5 diet as outlined by Gabriel, which I intend to stay on for a few months. The ‘Phase Chart’ is a chart of glycemic index which delegates live foods into 5 categories according to how much they will affect the blood sugar level of one who eats them.

For the last week, I’ve been eating almost exclusively Phase 1.5 aside from a small piece of raw cheesecake, a few kombuchas and a sip of grape juice. The last 2 days were totally Phase 1.5 and today I had a kombucha but nothing else. The kombucha habit will definitely go… eventually

How has it been so far? Great! I had some distinct sugar detox the first couple days, where I’d find myself full yet wanting sugar. Especially in the afternoon, I noticed myself wanting to use it as a stimulant. I’ve noticed better focus since going Phase 1.5, as well as better and less sleep, and it seems, improved digestion. The hardest part, honestly, is realizing the role that sugar emotionally plays in my life. It seems to provide a sense of excitement and color for me as well as a feeling of coziness. From now on, I plan to update you weekly on how it’s going!

Some more examples of Phase 1 and 1.5 of raw food (in addition to the above one):
