Elevating My Mood
Dr. Gabriel Cousens has done a lot of work with balancing what he calls the ‘biologically altered brain’ and addressing body chemistry. I have been looking through his book ‘Depression Free for Life’ to just get some insights. I definitely don’t feel I have full blown depression, but I there may be some things out of balance in my body and brain chemistry.
There is a section in the beginning of the book which talks about the main neurotransmitters in the brain. The ones I seem to qualify as low on are serotonin and endorphins.
There is actually an EXCELLENT lecture that Gabriel did last year on serotonin and dopamine deficiency, although I don’t believe the media people have it posted yet. Bottom line, though, is that it is very common for women to be deficient in serotonin. In a small study Gabriel did, 90% of the women were deficient. On May 11th of last year, I actually
posted a short summary of this lecture – click here.
I have much more research to do on this topic, but here are the changes I have made so far:
#1 Taking more essential fatty acids. Which ones and how much?
OmegaZen supplies DHA – about 5 drops per day
Ocean’s Alive Marine Phytoplankton – basically an AWESOME brain food – about 8 drops per day
#2 Taking tryptophan before bed and in the morning as part of the protocol below – Tryptophan is THE supplement for serotonin. Tryptophan is the pre-curser to serotonin.
Ingredients:#3 Doing Gabriel’s morning protocol for serotonin and neurotransmitter building and mood enhancing:
2 drops Iosol
1 TBS aloe vera
1 tsp Polar Mins
1/2 tsp pomegranate concentrate
500 mg L-Tryptophan (1/4 tsp)(for women only)
1 tsp lemon juice
in water or non-caffenated tea
So. Yes, these are all supplemental approaches. And? They’re totally, totally working for me. I’ve been doing this seriously for about a week and have really felt a shift. Even as a raw foodist, I have been deficient in certain neurotransmitters, minerals and fatty acids to feed my brain.
I’ll keep you updated
